Welcome

Achnacroish Cottage Balvicar - Seil

Achnacroish is a historic cottage set on the beautiful island of Seil near Oban in Argyllshire.  It is a wonderful location, which is perfect for walking, bird watching, and wildlife study, or for simply relaxing.  The surrounding area has an abundance of wildlife and there is a nearby nature reserve.

Achnacroish is an original croft cottage, said to be the oldest surviving on the island; which dates back to the 18th century.

Seil was once an important slate quarrying area and a museum commemorates this.  The island is connected to the mainland by the "Bridge over the Atlantic", and is 12 miles south of Oban.

The cottage, which was restored and modernised in 1975 and has been kept in excellent condition since retains its original character with thick external walls, a local slate roof and small windows.  It stands in a field on a working croft containing sheep and other livestock. Facing east, Achnacroish cottage enjoys lovely views over to the Degnish peninsula.  Behind the cottage is Barr Mor; and there are wonderful views of the islands of Easdale, Mull, Luing and Seil from the top.

The cottage is connected to the road by a short track which can be muddy after rain.
